Before we can be honest with God, we must first be honest with ourselves. Self-honesty means being truthful about what we’re actually thinking and feeling, not what we believe we should be thinking and feeling. It’s the difference between saying “I’m fine” when we’re falling apart and admitting “I’m barely holding it together.” While most relationships can’t handle this level of transparency, there are two beings with whom we should be brutally honest: ourselves and God.
